Safety starts here
A Healthier future.
Local 21 is committed to advocating for the health and safety of its members. We have established several groups that address common threats to firefighter health and safety and provide resources to members so that they can stay healthy for a long and successful career.

The Local 21 Peer Fitness Team is committed to maintaining and improving the physical capabilities of Saint Paul Firefighters. Peer Fitness leads and shares workouts with members knowing that improving ourselves is most effective when we can help each other out as part of a team.
Peer Fitness also helps to get new exercise equipment in Saint Paul’s fire stations so that our members do not have to compromise when it comes to staying fit. Together with the Saint Paul Fire Foundation, we have installed equipment in every station.
There are many ways to remember our fallen firefighters, and Peer Fitness takes on this mission by creating and leading memorial workouts. Every year on the anniversary of their passing, we lead the Paidar, McDonough, Clifton and Woodbury WODs (Workout of the Day). In doing so, we strengthen the bonds of our community while honoring those who have sacrificed everything.
If you’re a Local 21 member looking to get involved with the Peer Fitness Team, contact Firefighter Cameron Mitchell, Ladder 18-C or Firefighter Sarah Reasoner, Rescue 3-A.
The Peer Support team is a group of fellow Saint Paul Firefighters who have been trained by the IAFF as Peer Supporters—people you can reach out to if you are struggling mentally with a call, the job itself, or anything else. The Cancer Task Force is committed to reducing firefighters’ exposure to carcinogens in the workplace. Firefighting is inherently dangerous, but we can take steps to make it as safe as possible by improving health outcomes for our members.
